30 things I've learned in 30 years

In honor of my third decade, I’ve taken some time to reflect! Here are my bite size nuggets of learned wisdom:

1.     All wisdom is within

2.     Pain = the opportunity for growth. The deeper the pain, the greater the opportunity to grow – nothing like a chronic illness to wake you the f up

3.     Little things over time amount to big things

4.     Also, its true: how you do one thing is how you do everything. Most of us need to slow down

5.     Food is and will always be my first medicine

6.     Along with nature - this planet is so, so beautiful

7.     Movement is another foundational medicine & movement is also independence!

8.     Feeling anxious or overwhelmed means that I need to prioritize being present, silent, and still more

9.     Early bedtimes are a game changer – aligning your rhythm with Nature’s rhythm is incredibly healing

10.  I no longer accept criticism or judgement from people that don’t know me (1) or who I wouldn’t accept advice from (2)

11.  You can’t please everyone and in fact, some people would rather you stay small. Sometimes this list even includes those closest to you and those in government positions

12.  (which is why) Loving yourself is a prerequisite for truly loving other people

13.  Our triggers reflect areas we haven’t tended to in ourselves. When we heal them in ourselves, we can hold them through the lens of compassion in others

14.  Everyone is doing the best they can with the tools they have available to them at that time

15.  We are radically responsible for our own happiness

16.  Your Truth is 1,000,000x more important than being “right and good” – a necessary lesson from the bible of perfectionism

17.  “No” and “Yes” are full sentences

18.  Journaling is soooo helpful for processing emotions and allowing them to transmute so you can move through them. Our body holds emotions and memories of traumas

19.  Boundaries and a strong sense of self may be the most important skills you can attain to facilitate authentic and healthy connection (to yourself and others)

20.  Most humans aren’t living to their full potential & yet the mind remains infinitely powerful  - check out any of Dr. Joe Dispenza’s testimonials if you crave that first-hand account (https://drjoedispenza.com/pages/stories-of-transformation)

21.  Everything is energy – vibes matter

22.  We all have seasons of life and different needs for nourishment in each season

23.  Your body is your home. It is ALWAYS on your side

24.  I believe we chose this life, this body, this adventure. I had often been told I was an “old soul” but I wasn’t until I read the book “Many lives, many masters” that I felt permission to lean into my intuition and deep roots – highly recommend this book to anyone looking for deeper meaning in life, anyone moving through death, grief, or loss, or anyone seeking healing

25.  Community is imperative – you call in your community by honoring your authentic self. And we lose it at great cost to ourselves - loneliness is equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day…

26.  Although human intellect loves to polarize issues and assign black/white meaning to things, most Truths are paradoxes (ie – you must die in order to have lived)

27.  Being a beginner is important because failing is an inevitable part of the process when you reach for your dreams

28.  Speaking of dreams, it is SO important to dream your dreams! If you don’t have a direction to aim your compass, it is much harder to call in that which you actually want (and much easier to get stuck in cycles of victimness/drama)

29.  Life can be viewed through the lens of either Love or Fear  - and your perspective makes all the difference

30.  Feeling good is >>>>>>>>> being right. As a former competitive athlete, one of my shadow aspects is a hypercompetitive nature and a tendency to dive into my intellect when I’m feeling threatened. But I’ve learned that it’s not our job (or helpful) to change minds that don’t want to be changed, and letting go of the need to be right is incredibly liberating

And lastly, some inspirational quotes I’ve been noodling on that I’ll take into my next 30 years:

“We’re all just walking each other home” -Ram Dass

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure” -Marianne Williamson
